dog neutering recovery
What recovery info do I need to know about when I have my dog neutered?

Your vet will provide you with the appropriate post operative care instructions, but, generally speaking: A neutered or spayed dog should not run/jump/or do anything else that could compromise his/her sutures for 5-10 days (males recover much more quickly than females). The would should be kept clean and dry, no licking!

It is not uncommon for a dog’s appetite to subside during recovery, particularly the day of the surgery. This is fairly common, as the anasthesia can upset a pup’s tummy. It’s best to offer some food and water that evening, though don’t worry if none is taken. If your dog does not eat or drink within 24 hours, most vets recommend calling them.

One final note – keep your eye on the wound. Some swelling is normal, but bleeding, gaping, or discharge may require veterinary attention.
